The York water company asked if we could "clean up" their rooftop ... possibly a slight understatement! Significant damage had accumulated over the years; resulting from wind, rain, thunderstorms, and more than a little done by workers trying to clear snow from the roof.
Interestingly, the original slate had been anchored by an elaborate system of wires ... it was tied on! This is the way all slate and tile was applied before appropriate nails were common. The pieces were tied to the battens on the rooftop.
There are many examples of this sound but older method both in Europe and in America. In this job, McCreesh & Son combined both old and new technology - so the end result really did match the original. |
 | Painters, carpenters, cleaners and other types of maintenance workers cause much damage to slate rooftops - unknowingly - because they don't know how to move about on slate.
Only roofing professionals should be allowed to tred on your slate roof! | |
