Inspired by an old photograph, the owner of this pool house asked McCreesh and Son to give it a similar "historic" look. This unusual challenge couldn't be resisted, and the intrigued artisans were delighted to accept!
Left and below: the work in progress with a large area cleared to the decking and ready to receive "new" materials. |
Matching the subject required careful attention to line, color and texture. McCreesh began with six "classic" shades of Vermont slate, in both new and used materials. Then, through a painstaking process of selection, cutting and fitting, they produced a random-sized installation with balanced colors and textures - bearing an uncanny resembalance to the photo! The owner was thrilled, and so were McCreesh and Son! |
Above: most of the visual "clutter" is necessary to provide safety for humans as well as material. (roofing slate is not designed to be walked-on by non-professionals!)
Left: the "nautical" theme bronze dormers provide a nice deco touch. Part of the existing structure, they were also "weathered" using special McCreesh techniques (i.e. applied with knowledge, skill and care!). |
