The slate on this building is the famous Peach Bottom Slate, quarried in York County Pennsylvania, the adjacent portion of Maryland and also in Piscatsquis County, Maine.

This was the first American roofing slate made and is in high demand because of its heavier weight and rougher surface. These qualities add to the shadows and the appearance of movement as the sun travels across the finished roof.
McCreesh and Son maintains a large inventory of historic slates and are therefore able to match historic slates exactly - essential for restoration. Peter knows slate origins so well he is able to find needed replacements from the same quarry that provided the original material. This historic roof is now a duplicate of the original.
