1899 Historic Police Station
The "Delta" or "Peachbottom" slate quarried in Southeastern York county, Pennsylvania, is arguably the most famous slate in America. It was used for the original rooftop on this historic home and the very wise owner wanted the roofing structure restored to the original specification ... by recycling his own Historic Delta slate!
Fortunately McCreesh & Son knew exactly what slate they were dealing with and endorsed the process of taking-off and, then, re-laying this beautiful product. An historic rooftop is saved and the integrity of this home is intact.

Peachbottom was the first commercially quarried American slate; the quarry opened in the early 18th Century and was unfortunately exhausted in the 1940s. However this slate, with its unique resistance to color fading and amazing life-span of over 150 years, can still be found atop homes, businesses, public building and farms throughout the Northeast.

A strong sense of heritage lives on in the Peachbottom, Pennsylvania area, with museums, tours, classes and expeditions available to the public.
Below left:The chimney is a tribute to our early American artisians ... fortunately, it remains in place and makes a delightful visual statement. New 20 oz. copper flashing, custom-formed gutters and valley flashing completes this properly "weather-proofed" rooftop!
